Citing a need for foster families, the Maryland SPCA will host an open house later this month for interested foster parents.

The event is scheduled Saturday, May 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the SPCA's building in Hampden.

“Last year, 722 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens received temporary care and shelter in the homes of our foster parents,” Rae Borsetti, volunteer and foster coordinator, said in a release. “It is critical that we continue to grow our foster program in order to save more pets’ lives.”

The event will include lessons on the benefits of foster care, current foster pets and parents and a tour of the SPCA.

Foster care for dogs and cats could last days or weeks, and the SPCA helps foster families with training and supplies, according to the release. Borsetti added that the program prevents overcrowding in the organization's adoption center.

For more information, residents are asked to contact Borsetti at 410-235-8826 ext. 147 or by email at Rae@mdspca.org.
