Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will speak about her 10-year financial plan for the city during Councilman Bill Henry’s quarterly district meeting.
The meeting is scheduled to start with pizza and salad being served at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at St. Mary’s Church Hall, 5502 York Road , according to a news release.
"The purpose of this meeting is two-fold: to give the mayor an opportunity to provide greater detail on her plan, and to give our constituents the opportunity to ask specific questions as to how the plan will affect them," Henry said in the news release.
The mayor’s 10-year financial plan was released in February, and included some stark predictions for the city’s financial future, including a projected $745 million operating budget deficit by fiscal year 2022.
In the proposed fiscal year 2014 budget, which is currently being considered by the City Council, the mayor has started implementing some of the changes recommended in the plan, such as phasing in a 5 percent contribution from current employees to their retirement plans, shifting new employees to a "defined contribution savings plan" and switching firefighters to a new work schedule.
Henry represents District 4, which reaches from parts of Guilford and Waverly in the south, to the city/county line in the north, from Charles Street in the west to Loch Raven Boulevard and Mt. Pleasant Park in the west.
He has held quarterly district meeting since he was elected in 2007 and past topics have included the city's 311 system, the rewriting of the city's zoning codes and a community resource fair, according to the news release.
