(UPDATE 8:45 a.m.)—The Department of Public Works reported an eight-inch pipe leaked sewage into the Stony Run, gushing 50 to 100 gallons per minute at one time.

The leak was reported at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the area of 39th Street, according to a news release. A spokesman for the department said the leak was stopped later that evening.

City workers were using a red dye to pinpoint where the leak was coming from, which made the stream "appear pink at certain locations."

The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Baltimore City Health Department have been notified of the leak and signs were posted warning residents about pollutants in urban streams.

The stream runs throughout North Baltimore.
