Following a fatal fire last month that killed a 70-year-old man, the Baltimore Fire Department is launching a citywide sweep to install smoke alarms in homes where they are needed.
The event will last from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, and firefighters will be traveling to various neighborhoods to install the smoke alarms with 10-year lithium tamper resistant batteries paid for through a BGE grant, according to a news release.
"Each of our fire stations serves as an anchor in their community, and these sweep allow us to reach out and help make our neighborhoods safer," Chief James Clack said in the news release. "We are committed to involving every resident in our effort to reduce fires and fire deaths."
Last year 12 residents died in fires. It was the lowest total of fatalities on record in Baltimore.

- 700-800 blocks of West Cold Spring Lane
- 4400-4500 blocks of Craddock Avenue
- 2900-3900 blocks of Keswick Road
- 500 block of Campbell Lane
- 200 block of Cedarcroft Road
- 100-300 blocks of Edgevale Road
- 6300 block of Boxwood Road
- 6200-6300 blocks of Mossway
- 5900 block of Meadowwood Road
- 5700 block of Ansley Garth
- 700-800 blocks of East Coldspring Lane
