It could cost up to $70,000 for the repair a broken pipe that caused sewage to spill into the Stony Run.
According to an email from Kurt Kocher, a Department of Public Works spokesman, contractor R.E. Harrington is preparing the site to remove 300 feet of pipe on Wednesday.
A new pipe will be placed at the same time as the old pipe is removed near the intersection of 39th Street and University Parkway, and is expected to cost between $60,000 and $70,000.
The work will stop overflow problems that have been occurring in the area for years, Kocher’s email reads.
The overflow was discovered about 10:30 a.m., last Thursday and city workers stopped the sewage from seeping into the stream by that evening.
However, the pipe was gushing between 50 and 100 gallons a minute at one point, and an estimated 28,000 gallons of sewage made it into the stream.
The Stony Run flows throughout central North Baltimore.
