A Baltimore County Circuit Court jury found Sterlin Matthews, 19, guilty of the murder of Dequan Burks, who was 16 when he and three others were shot on the night of Oct. 31, 2010, near the pedestrian footbridge over the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, according to a release issued by State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger.

According to the release, Burks had been with a group of teenagers for Halloween in Lansdowne. The group crossed a footbridge into Baltimore Highlands when shots were fired by Matthews, the release said.

Burks and the two others were shot near the 100-block of Twin Circle Way, according to police. When police arrived on the scene, they found Burks lying on the sidewalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Matthews, of the 1800 block of N. Bentalou St., was convicted of second-degree murder, eleven counts of first-degree assault and three counts of handgun charges, according to the State's Attorney's release.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 10, 2013, officials said.
