UPDATE (11:40 a.m.) It's the day of Vaughn and Marjorie Pepper's funeral, but there's one family member who won't attend the 11 a.m. service in Dorchester County.
Matthew Long, their 31-year-old grandson, is now a suspect in the double homicide but is currently in an Oklahoma hospital, according to a news release from Baltimore County police.
"Detectives have traveled to Oklahoma as part of this investigation," the release states. "Matthew Long has not been interviewed yet due to his medical condition, but detectives are now considering him a suspect in the murders."
The elderly couple was found dead in their home at 800 Olmstead Road on Monday. They had suffered traumatic injuries and homicide detectives were investigating.
Police say they believe the couple died Saturday.
Vaughn Pepper was 87. He and his wife, Marjorie, 85, had lived in Sudbrook Park since 1965.
Long had been living with them, but was missing when their bodies were found.
Vaughn Pepper was a Maryland State Trooper for 30 years, and had served in the Army during World War II.
During the derecho this summer, a tree fell on the Peppers' home. Their home underwent renovations after that.
They were members of St. Charles Borommeo Catholic Church in Pikesville.
