Baltimore may have been unfairly named the third dirtiest city in America.

A Travel and Leisure magazine survey pointed to growing rat problems as a reason for the high ranking.

"Does this Maryland city need an army of cats? County officials have been reportedly getting more complaints about rats this year, which may be one reason the city creeped up from last year’s No. 6.

The problem? The link in the survey directs readers to an article from The Baltimore Sun that exclusively discusses rat infestations in Dundalk and other portions of southeastern Baltimore County, not the city. Rat eradication efforts are also underway for Towson and Loch Raven.

Not that the city isn't without its own rat problems. In 2011, the Charles Village Community Benefits District began a rat abatement initiative.

New York City edged out all 22 contenders for its "grit and grime."
