A zoning board dismissed a request to operate a methadone clinic near a Charles Village school when the applicant failed to appear at a hearing Monday.
Juliet Adetunji was scheduled to appear before the Municipal and Zoning Appeals Board on Tuesday at 1 p.m., but she never showed up, and her request to operate "health care clinic, mental health, substance abuse treatment and counseling services" at 2541 St. Paul Street was dismissed.
Before the board ruled to dismiss the zoning request, Steve Crouch, the building’s manager, said that neither he nor the building’s owner knew, or approved for anyone to pursue operating a methadone clinic at the property.
Crouch said the building is currently leased to Isaac Ogunsola & Co. CPA, and that their lease agreement does not allow for any subleasing of the property. He told the board that when he tried to get a hold of Adetunji the phone number she listed on the zoning application was the same for the CPA office.
Parents and school advocates for Margaret Brent Elementary/ Middle School were horrified to find out about the application for a methadone clinic so close to the school.
