I suppose I was relieved when Charm City Run general manager Brian Nasuta didn't groan when I told him I hadn't started preparing for the Baltimore Running Festival.

Part of me refuses to admit just how far I've left myself go since high school. The other part of me looks in a mirror and sees I can't fit into my old soccer jerseys.

It was that latter part of me that made me pick up a phone and call Charm City Run for a bit of advice about preparing for the Baltimore Running Festival.

(Click through the slideshow above to see what Nasuta has to say.

Nasuta stressed consistency throughout the five points of advice he gave.

I (Lutherville-Timonium Patch) along with three colleagues from Essex-Middle River Patch, North Baltimore Patch and (formerly) Catonsville Patch will be running a four-person relay come Oct. 13.

A relay seemed so much more manageable than a marathon until I drew the short straw. My leg, the first leg, is mostly uphill—or so I have been warned.

Charm City Run, I have come to find, is the hub for runners, joggers and sprinters to train together and learn from one another (and to occasionally show off the latest running fashion trends).

Are you preparing for the marathon? How? Share you tips for novice long distance joggers like myself and more advanced tips for avid runners in the comments section below.

Editor's Note: Inexplicably, I also signed up for a more, shall we say, life-threatening run at the end of October. Be sure to look out for that post soon.
