An off-duty Baltimore City Police officer was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment after pointing his departmentally-issued handgun at people in Towson.
Matthew David Daugherty, 28, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. Saturday morning and later released on $75,000 bail.
Baltimore County Police responded to the Rec Room at 512 York Road in Towson at 2:15 a.m., where an employee told them an intoxicated off-duty city officer was acting belligerent and saying he had a gun. The employee took car keys from the man as the bar was closing because he appeared too intoxicated to drive, according to a police press release.
The man left the bar through back door before officers arrived, and he was located outside in a parking lot at Delaware and Pennsylvania avenues. Two males told police the suspect had pointed a gun at them. Officers identified the man as an off-duty Baltimore City Police officer and found his departmentally-issued Glock-22 handgun on him in a holster, the release said.
Daughtery was immediately suspended from Baltimore City Police when they were notified about the incident. In addition to the criminal charges, he will face internal disciplinary actions, according to a Baltimore City Police press release.
“While there is no assumption of guilt, the allegations contained in the police report are reprehensible and we have zero tolerance for any activity which undermines the integrity of this agency or the public trust that we work so hard to earn,” the release said.
The report will be forwarded to the Baltimore County Liquor Board for review after the investigation is complete, per department policy, the release said.
