The former site of Memorial Stadium was the scene of yet another celebration on Monday afternoon, this time for the ceremonial start of a new senior living community.
During an event on Monday afternoon, in a trailer housing a model apartment on the site of the future development, dignitaries signed a beam that will be visible when Heritage Run at Stadium Place is completed. Stephen Proctor, CEO of Presbyterian Senior Living, said they decided to do a beam signing because it is less formal than a ground breaking, which is fitting because of the location near ball fields and play areas.
"We're going to put this in a place where the beam will be exposed so take that under advisement," Proctor said to laughter. "But future generations will be able to look at this and say 'These are the folks who were here when this began.'"
The development, which is expected to be completed in spring 2014, is being built in partnership between Presbyterian Senior Living and Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation, and will feature 36 market rate rental units that will feature five floor plans with two and three bedroom models, according to a news release.
The site is already home to GEDCO's original Stadium Place and Green House Residences that cater to older adults of various income levels.
