A local nonprofit focused on helping low-income homeowners make critical home repairs has partnered with three Baltimore-area hardware stores to help build their collection of tools.
Rebuilding Together Baltimore, which serves residents of Baltimore City and Baltimore County, is collecting donations of tools at ACE Hardware locations around the city, including one in Waverly, through the end of March.
"While [Rebuilding Together Baltimore] utilizes volunteers to provide many of its home repairs, most of the volunteers do not have their own tools," the organization wrote in a news release.
The organzation needs a wide variety of tools, including hammers, screwdrivers, hand tools, power drills (regular, impact, hammer), hand grinders, miter saws, sanders, routers, air compressors, nail guns, table saws, electrical testing equipment, HEPA vacuums, and extension cords, the release states.
Tools can be dropped off at Waverly ACE Hardware, 601 Homestead Street; or at two locations downtown:
- Federal Hill ACE Hardware, 1214 Light St.
- Canton ACE Hardware, 1022 Binney Street
April 27 marks this year's Rebuilding Day event when more than 600 volunteers will engage in up to 30 projects in Baltimore City's Mid-Govans neighborhood and Dundalk's Colgate community, according to the release.
The organization’s goal is to help preserve affordable homeownership in the two communities as well as help revitalize the communities as a whole," the release states.
"This tool drive will help build a much needed tool supply for us. When we are able to provide tools for our volunteers to use, we can help more homeowners stay warmer, safer and drier in their homes," said Rebuilding Together Baltimore executive director Bonnie Bessor in a news release, "We encourage everyone to donate new or gently used tools. Donors also will receive a letter acknowledging their tax-deductible gift."
