According to the proposal on Board of Estimates agenda, the parking rates need to be increased to help maintain the city owned facilities, and will be the first price increases at the facility since 2007.
"The [Parking Authority of Baltimore City] performed a survey of parking rates in the areas surrounding the Baltimore Street, Caroline Street, St. Paul Place and West Street garage facilities," the proposal reads. "The rate surveys confirmed that the fees charged to parkers at these facilities are generally lower than fees charged at other parking facilities within the area. “
- Under this proposal hourly parking rates of more than two hours at the Caroline Street garage would increase by $1.
- The "transient rates" at the Baltimore Street garage would increase $8 Thursday through Saturday.
- Restricted residential parking rates would increase by to $90 at the St. Paul Place garage.
- The residential restricted rate at the West Street garage would increase from $55 to $60 for 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from $65 to $68 ffrom 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday.
The news of the proposed increase in prices at these parking facilities comes on the heels of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake proposing a budget for the coming fiscal year that does away with a planned 1 percent decrease in the city’s parking tax.
