Baltimore police announced on Monday the department will host a public Comstat session.
Comsat is the computer statistics police use to track crime trends in the city and to plan strategy for addressing those crimes. Usually these meetings are held just between the department’s top officials.
But at 7 p.m., Thursday at the Public Safety Training Facility, 3500 W. Northern Parkway, the department will hold a session open to residents and the news media.
Commissioner Anthony Batts said during an interview on the department’s BPDTV broadcast the idea behind the meetings is to give residents a better idea of what Comstat does, because many community leaders have said they don’t understand how this "amorphous beast" works.
"What we’re trying to do is peel back this onion and open up the organization and say this is what we do and this is how we do it," Batts said during the BPDTV broadcast.
